How to restore your Motorola DROID RAZR M back to stock ICS from the JB leak

How to restore your Motorola DROID RAZR M back to stock ICS from the JB leakLast week we informed you that there was a Jelly Bean leak for the Motorola DROID RAZR M. Installing the zip file is pretty straight forward (file and instructions found here), but at that time there was no way to revert back to stock Ice Cream Sandwich if you wanted to - until now.

Keep in mind when doing any of this flashing, that you will lose all your apps, data, and settings on the phone, so you'll have to reinstall those.

If you are running the Jelly Bean leak (version 98.11.35) and want to revert back to stock Ice Cream Sandwich (version 77.111.10), you'll need to do the following......

  • First off is to make sure you have the Motorola USB drivers installed on your PC (download here). Then the current version of RSD Lite 6.1.4 installed (from here). And lastly the full fastboot Ice Cream Sandwich recovery file 648MB (from here).

  • After that, you'll run the RSD Lite program.

  • Make sure the phone is off. Press-and-hold the Volume Down and Volume UP and the Power button at the same time until there is a menu shown with white text. Quickly use the Volume Down to highlight AP Fastboot and then press the Volume UP to select it. You have to do this fast, or the phone will restart.

  • Once your phone is in the Fastboot menu, connect the phone to the PC.

  • Select the phone XT907 listed in the first line in RSD Lite, and its information will then show in the Device Properties screen.

  • Click on the "..." next to the Filename and select the ICS file you downloaded: VZW_XT907_4.0.4-7.7.1Q-144_SMQ_S1-36-10_CFC.xml.zip

  • Then have it decompress the zip file and start the flashing process. Once it has completed, your Motorola DROID RAZR M has been fully restored back to original ICS software that came with the phone.

Thanks to everyone for the files and help (you know who you are)!

Samsung Galaxy Premier spotted on AnTuTu

Samsung Galaxy Premier spotted on AnTuTuSoon after the model name GT-i9260 started appearing on the interwebs, some were quick to
speculate that a Galaxy Nexus follow up was behind this enigmatic alphanumerical code. Then several days ago, it became more likely for a smartphone called Samsung Galaxy Premier to bear the said model name. Furthermore, a photo of the Premier surfaced too, along with some rumored hardware specs – 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8MP camera, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean pre-loaded.

Now, some of you might be wondering just what that 1.5GHz CPU might be capable of. Well, wonder no more as a Samsung Galaxy Premier has already been benchmarked, it seems. An Android smartphone with the model name GT-i9268 has been spotted on AnTuTu – likely a TD-SCDMA version of the Galaxy Premier bound for China, and it scored 7,736 points, which is a pretty decent figure. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus averages about 5,500 points, while the U.S. version of the Samsung Galaxy S III gets around 6100 points. An international Samsung Galaxy S III model, powered by a quad-core Exynos chip, goes beyond the 13,000 mark on AnTuTu, which is quite impressive.

But then again, one should keep in mind that high synthetic benchmark scores aren't always a guarantee that a smartphone would perform flawlessly. Let's just wait until the Samsung Galaxy Premier (or whatever it ends up being called) is announced, and then we'll judge it once we get to take it for a spin.

LG Optimus G battery life is better than the Samsung Galaxy S III, claims an LG experiment

LG Optimus G battery life is better than the Samsung Galaxy S III, claims an LG experimentKorea Herald reports that LG ran a series of battery life tests, pitting its newest Optimus G handset
against the Android darling Samsung Galaxy S III. Both devices have 2,100 mAh battery packs, but LG claims the higher density of its unit and the improved chemistry allowed for better results.

The tests were presumable done on equal footing - 50% screen brightness, full battery charge, with both phones connected to LG's U+ network. The results are as follows - 15.8 consecutive hours of talk on the Optimus G, compared to 9.5 hours on the Galaxy S III. The official specs of both phones are 15 hours of talk time in 3G mode for the G, and 11.5 hours for the S III, though.

Optimus G also recorded and played videos for 3.8 hours and 7.9 hours, respectively, whereas the Galaxy S III managed 2.8 hours recording and 7.3 of video playback.

The reason for this frugality was demonstrated for reporters playing PSY's "Gangnam Style" video, and while playing a 1.8 GB video game - in both cases the Optimus G showed lower power consumption compared to the Galaxy S III. Overall, the test results, while not independent, aim to confirm that the Optimus G, despite all the power stuffed into it, is not going to be less frugal than Samsung's most popular Android handset, which has the same battery capacity.

Asus releases three promotional Padfone 2 videos

Asus releases three promotional Padfone 2 videos
So, the new Asus Padfone 2 has been announced officially, and it is both pretty and powerful. Have you seen photos of the device already? You know what, even if you haven't, we have something even better right here. Asus has posted several Padfone 2 ads on YouTube, and they are all very enjoyable to watch.

The first one goes over the engineering process of the Asus Padfone 2 and the design solutions that have been implemented. The new model is lighter than its predecessor, which was possible thanks to the unibody construction of the device, as it is said in the video. Then we have a video clip going over the technical specifications of the Padfone 2. For those who need a refresher, the smartphone sports a 4.7-inch display with HD resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor ticking at 1.5GHz, and a 13-megapixel camera, while the tablet packs a 10.1-inch screen with built-in battery and a loudspeaker. And last but not least, there is a short 30 second video, the kind of which you might expect seeing on TV.

Now feel free to check out the videos below and tell us what you think in the comments. Is anyone excited about the Asus Padfone 2 coming later this year?

Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S IIIDesign:
Clearly see a huge disparity between the two dimensions, the iPhone 5 is probably easier to understand in hand, because it is lighter, thinner frame, not bulky in the hand, like the Galaxy S III. Moreover, it is clear that the iPhone 5 is the device most upscale, looking between the two, with a new brushed aluminum lid and sturdy construction. However, there is no doubt in our minds that the Samsung Galaxy S III likely to face a drop much better than its rivals - mainly because its plastic body would not hit so hard.

Then their screens without physical buttons that bring us back to their home screens - however, rises, while the other is hidden. However, there is one that is more advantageous because it is a necessary tactile feedback.
Looking at the sides of the two laptops have many common elements - such as connectors 3.5 mm jack for headphones, microphone, volume control buttons and power. However, the Samsung Galaxy III uses a universal microUSB port plus preferred video output using a MHL adapter, while the iPhone 5 is connected to the gate of the new Apple Thunderbolt property.

Rates uniformly together, these jewels have the same features of 8MP camera with auto focus and LED flash, capable of recording videos in 1080p, of course. After spending some time carefully detailing its complexity, it is a difficult decision, in which the device has a better screen. With 4.7 inches, the Samsung Galaxy S III HD 720 x 1280 Super AMOLED screen, the love for his size and more saturated colors, while the iPhone 5 with 4-inch 640 x 1136 Retina display wins and external visibility high colors with extreme accuracy. Naturally, the screen of the iPhone 5 Retina cough higher density of pixels 326 pixels per inch, compared with the 306 dpi SGSIII, but in all honesty is negligible, since both are carefully detailed. As the two viewing angles show is ultimately up to the color of it. Be AMOLED panel, cooler tones presented SGSIII which tend to produce a bluish white, while the iPhone 5 product your very natural - so it's just a matter of preference.

Alleged iPad mini battery revealed, holds 4490mAh of charge

Alleged iPad mini battery revealed, holds 4490mAh of chargeIn case you're already bored of the same alleged iPad mini back plate leaking over and over again,
here is a component that we haven't seen yet. What we are looking at is supposed to be the battery that will go inside Apple's rumored new tablet, or at least that is what tipsters are claiming. A closer inspection of the photos reveals that the cell has a voltage of 3.72V. Furthermore, it is rated at 4490mAh / 16.7Wh, which, to no surprise, puts its energy capacity in between those of the iPhone 5 and the new iPad. As a side note, the iPhone 5 holds a 5.45Wh battery, while the third-gen iPad has a 42.5Wh cell.

Alleged iPad mini battery revealed, holds 4490mAh of charge
Unfortunately, we have no way of saying whether this really is the battery for the iPad mini, but judging by the way the cell is labeled, it might turn out to be the real deal. Chances are that we are dealing with a testing version of the cell as it lacks the necessary logos of the corresponding regulatory institutions.

Official: SoftBank to acquire 70% of Sprint for $20.1 billion

Official: SoftBank to acquire 70% of Sprint for $20.1 billionIt is official, folks! The acquisition of Sprint by SoftBank has been approved by both companies'
boards of directors. If the FCC and other regulatory organs give the green light on the deal, the Japanese carrier will invest $20.1 billion in Sprint, $12.1 billion of which will be paid to shareholders, while the remaining $8 billion of new capital will be used to "strengthen Sprint’s balance sheet". The transaction is expected to close by mid-2013.

Once the acquisition is complete, SoftBank will become one of the largest providers of mobile Internet access worldwide thanks to the huge combined subscriber base of the two companies. The combined mobile telecom service revenue will rank third amongst global operations. The aforementioned $8 billion will be used towards establishing a more solid mobile network in the U.S. and other strategic investments that will hopefully make Sprint more competitive on the market.

If SoftBank fails to obtain sufficient financing and the deal does not close as a result, it must pay Sprint a termination fee of $600 million. The same amount will be owed to SoftBank by Sprint if the latter accepts a superior offer by a third party. In case Sprint's shareholders do not approve the transaction at their shareholder meeting, Sprint will have to pay up to $75 million of SoftBank's expenses.

The iPhone 5 'static lines' keyboard glitch is a software issue, to be patched with the next iOS 6 update

The iPhone 5 'static lines' keyboard glitch is a software issue, to be patched with the next iOS 6 updateWith some iPhone 5 units, on screens where you have to enter your Apple ID, a few fuzzy things appear, which might frighten you at first, considering the static lines look like the display is about to give up the ghost.

Apparently the problem is software-related, nothing to do with the in-cell touch display, as it mostly appears in certain situation where Apple now separates the keyboard pop-up window from the app it is running in, like during the above-mentioned Apple ID input. It has, however, also been appearing in app icons and individual letters.

There has allegedly already been a customer complaint reply from Apple's service, saying that the issue will be fixed with the next update: “…Apple is aware of the issue & that they’re working on it. It will be patched in an upcoming iOS update. It’s confirmed to be a software issue. Why it only happens on some devices, she didn’t have details. The bottom line is that they’re working on it now & we will have a solution.

Have you experienced the "static lines" on-screen keyboard software glitch with your iPhone 5 unit?

Nokia employees anonymously tell the story of Nokia MeeGo

Nokia employees anonymously tell the story of Nokia MeeGoRight now, it seems pretty clear that we have a duopoly in mobile. Android and iOS rule the market, and Windows Phone is desperately trying to get at least some momentum. But outside of that? It seems like no other platform stands a chance. It wasn’t like this just a couple of years ago when Nokia was developing MeeGo and when webOS was alive and promising.

After that Stephen Elop happened to Nokia and that meant the end of MeeGo, and the full transition to Windows Phone as the company’s main platform. We are yet to see how that plays out and so far it’s been a bumpy road for the Finns. Now, as thousands working on MeeGo have been laid off, 10 anonymous Nokia employees tell the story of MeeGo, Nokia’s partnership with Intel that resulted in a single phone, the Nokia N9, and became ashes after that.

Check out the slideshow below to see when it all started and why and when it was scrapped, but also don’t hesitate to hit the original source for the full story.

The painful Jelly Bean update rollout for the Galaxy S III resumes

The painful Jelly Bean update rollout for the Galaxy S III resumesGalaxy S III users did not experience the smoothest update process ever. While the manufacturer

started rolling out the update last month, it had to temporarily pause the rollout and work out a few bugs first.

After the first handsets were updated in September, it was quickly discovered that the update package caused a battery drain and a few issues with the interface. It seems that these have now been fixed, as the update process has been resumed in Sweden. Let's hope that Samsung will quickly deploy the update in all other markets as well.

The Android 4.1.1 update that is being released brings a number of cool features to the GS III, including Project Butter, which should make the handset feel even faster and smoother, better notification bar with more options, Google Now and some others.

Did you receive your Jelly Beans yet?

No virus scanner in future Google Play store

Android could get a virus scanner in future Google Play store updateAndroid’s Google Play seems to be on its way to get a built-in malware scanner. Found in the string file

in one of the latest Google Play updates is evidence that Google is indeed working on a built-in application to detect viruses on Android, and that is something that will finally calm down a lot of people about the safety of the ecosystem.

The software in question is referred to as “App Check,” and by the looks of it, it is exactly there to detect malware. Judging from all the visible evidence (there is nothing official about it yet), the App Check will first scan pre-installed applications to see whether you haven’t already somehow gotten malware on your device.

Secondly, it will of course monitor new installations and warn you if they contain malware.

You can say it’s a malware scanner in the making not just by the name, but also by the accompanying icons with a shield and exclamation marks on triangles. The results of a scan will be “All-good” and “Oh no!”

That’s all great, but let’s underscore the fact that this “App Check” is not yet functional. It probably will arrive in future versions of Android, when it is expected to function along with Google’s “Bouncer” online service.
