Do you want the Galaxy S IV to have an S Pen?

Do you want the Galaxy S IV to have an S Pen?With no one starting the rumor mill about the next-generation Galaxy S, we thought - why can't this be us?! Of course, we're not really starting a rumor mill here, but just wanted you think of this: a Galaxy S IV with an S Pen of its own!

We, personally, aren't big fans of the idea, though. Sure, the screen seems large enough, but who would really want to use a stylus on a consumer device with touchscreen? Still, Samsung managed to introduce some neat S Pen features in the Galaxy Note II that might be found cool by some users out there.

Aside from allowing you to take handwritten notes, the pressure-sensitive S Pen also lets you easily seek through a video or cut parts of the screen and paste them elsewhere. Well, probably not something that you may want to do every day, but then again, we might be wrong.

So, how do you feel about this imaginary Galaxy S IV with an S Pen? And if you happen to like the idea, what other applications of the S Pen can you think of?

KDDI AQUOS Pad SHT21 is the first tablet with IGZO screen: promises up to 2.5x better battery life

KDDI AQUOS Pad SHT21 is the first tablet with IGZO screen: promises up to 2.5x better battery lifeIGZO screens are kind of a big deal. It’s extremely battery-savvy - in fact, it promises to draw two thirds
less power than LCD - but it’s also allows for more transistor and even higher resolutions. And now we have the first tablet with it, the KDDI AQUOS Pad SHT21, coming to Japan in December with its 7-inch display.

First, the resolution. It’s not all that steller - you have 1280 x 800 pixels, the same as on the Nexus 7, but what’s most notable is the promise of 2.5 times increase in battery life. That’s nothing like the 6.1-inch prototype shown around at IFA with a stunning 2,560 x 1,600-pixel resolution, but the focus here is on battery savings.

What is IGZO, though? An abbreviation from indium gallium zinc oxide, the material used in LCD rather than standard amorphous silicon, it is a semiconductor material that allows electrons to move faster, so that transistors could be built smaller. Most importantly, the easier flow of electrons means you have to refresh a picture less often, and that’s where the battery savings come from. The backlight would often draw less than half the power of a standard LCD screen. Additionally, there is much less interference with other hardware.

Here is a quick rundown of the rest of the specs, that are pretty standard. You have an 8-megapixel rear camera and VGA fron one. The processor is Qualcomm’s MSM8960 1.5GHz dual-core one working along 1GB of RAM to power Android 4.0 ICS. There is 16GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD.

The new KDDI tablet comes with different modes including one targeted at best battery life results. It weighs 280 grams, and overall looks pretty nice. We can’t wait to see actual battery tests, but if those numbers turn out to be true, the IGZO screens could be a huge leap for tablet longevity. Could it land on the iPad mininext week? Let's stay tuned to find out.

Samsung Galaxy Note II lands on T-Mobile web site

Samsung Galaxy Note II lands on T-Mobile web site
Samsung Galaxy Note II lands on T-Mobile web site

Samsung Galaxy Note II lands on T-Mobile web siteSince T-Mobile officially announced that it will be offering the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note II, it was only a matter of time until we see it land on the carrier's web page. And here it is, ladies and gents, in all its glory, with a "Coming soon" tag attached to it, as if to tease us even more.

Given the information that is posted there, we know that the 5.5-inch monster of a smartphone will be offered by T-Mobile in two variants – Marble White and Titanium Gray, in case you are wondering. What we don't know yet, however, is how much it will cost with a 2-year plan as pricing has not been disclosed yet. Another thing we are also not being informed about is exactly when the Samsung Galaxy Note II will be released as a specific launch date is not being mentioned. Nevertheless, rumor has it that October 24 is when T-mobile will release the jumbo-sized smartphone.

Samsung has an event planned for October 24 to celebrate the U.S. launch of the Galaxy Note II, so it won't be surprising if the device lands on T-Mobile on that date or very soon after. As a side note, the Sprint model will be out on October 25 and will go for $300 on a 2-year contract.

U.S. versions of the Galaxy S III may not see the Jelly Bean update until 2013 (Confirmed)

U.S. versions of the Galaxy S III may not see the Jelly Bean update until 2013 (Confirmed)*UPDATE: Samsung Mobile has just posted the official press-release, announcing that the Jelly Bean update for the U.S. versions of the Galaxy S III will arrive "in the coming months." It also mentions that the specific time of release for each update will be revealed by each respective carrier, kind of confirming the info below. You can find the complete press-release at the end of the story.

Just when we thought that Android phone manufacturers have learned their lesson, it seems the same old story is about to repeat itself.

The Examiner reports that Samsung spokesmen have informed it that the U.S. versions of the Galaxy S III will be the last to receive a software update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The exact reasons for this have not been specified, but we presume they might have something to do with carrier testing processes or the slightly different hardware found in those versions of the phone.

Now, the U.S. Galaxy S III getting the update last may not have been such a problem, if the rest of the markets were getting their updates quickly, but as our readers know, this has not been the case. Earlier this week we informed you that after a pause, the Jelly Bean roll out for the S III has just resumed, according to reports from Sweden.

So, what all of this means in this case, is that the U.S. versions of the Samsung Galaxy S III may not receive their Android 4.1 updates until 2013! But hey, if there's something that Android device owners have gotten used to by now, especially those in the U.S., that is waiting for updates. The good news here is for Sprint customers, who, according to the report, may be lucky enough to get their update a bit earlier. Christmas present maybe? Well, we'll see!

How do you guys feel about that unpleasant development of the story?

How to restore your Motorola DROID RAZR M back to stock ICS from the JB leak

How to restore your Motorola DROID RAZR M back to stock ICS from the JB leakLast week we informed you that there was a Jelly Bean leak for the Motorola DROID RAZR M. Installing the zip file is pretty straight forward (file and instructions found here), but at that time there was no way to revert back to stock Ice Cream Sandwich if you wanted to - until now.

Keep in mind when doing any of this flashing, that you will lose all your apps, data, and settings on the phone, so you'll have to reinstall those.

If you are running the Jelly Bean leak (version 98.11.35) and want to revert back to stock Ice Cream Sandwich (version 77.111.10), you'll need to do the following......

  • First off is to make sure you have the Motorola USB drivers installed on your PC (download here). Then the current version of RSD Lite 6.1.4 installed (from here). And lastly the full fastboot Ice Cream Sandwich recovery file 648MB (from here).

  • After that, you'll run the RSD Lite program.

  • Make sure the phone is off. Press-and-hold the Volume Down and Volume UP and the Power button at the same time until there is a menu shown with white text. Quickly use the Volume Down to highlight AP Fastboot and then press the Volume UP to select it. You have to do this fast, or the phone will restart.

  • Once your phone is in the Fastboot menu, connect the phone to the PC.

  • Select the phone XT907 listed in the first line in RSD Lite, and its information will then show in the Device Properties screen.

  • Click on the "..." next to the Filename and select the ICS file you downloaded: VZW_XT907_4.0.4-7.7.1Q-144_SMQ_S1-36-10_CFC.xml.zip

  • Then have it decompress the zip file and start the flashing process. Once it has completed, your Motorola DROID RAZR M has been fully restored back to original ICS software that came with the phone.

Thanks to everyone for the files and help (you know who you are)!

Samsung Galaxy Premier spotted on AnTuTu

Samsung Galaxy Premier spotted on AnTuTuSoon after the model name GT-i9260 started appearing on the interwebs, some were quick to
speculate that a Galaxy Nexus follow up was behind this enigmatic alphanumerical code. Then several days ago, it became more likely for a smartphone called Samsung Galaxy Premier to bear the said model name. Furthermore, a photo of the Premier surfaced too, along with some rumored hardware specs – 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8MP camera, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean pre-loaded.

Now, some of you might be wondering just what that 1.5GHz CPU might be capable of. Well, wonder no more as a Samsung Galaxy Premier has already been benchmarked, it seems. An Android smartphone with the model name GT-i9268 has been spotted on AnTuTu – likely a TD-SCDMA version of the Galaxy Premier bound for China, and it scored 7,736 points, which is a pretty decent figure. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus averages about 5,500 points, while the U.S. version of the Samsung Galaxy S III gets around 6100 points. An international Samsung Galaxy S III model, powered by a quad-core Exynos chip, goes beyond the 13,000 mark on AnTuTu, which is quite impressive.

But then again, one should keep in mind that high synthetic benchmark scores aren't always a guarantee that a smartphone would perform flawlessly. Let's just wait until the Samsung Galaxy Premier (or whatever it ends up being called) is announced, and then we'll judge it once we get to take it for a spin.

LG Optimus G battery life is better than the Samsung Galaxy S III, claims an LG experiment

LG Optimus G battery life is better than the Samsung Galaxy S III, claims an LG experimentKorea Herald reports that LG ran a series of battery life tests, pitting its newest Optimus G handset
against the Android darling Samsung Galaxy S III. Both devices have 2,100 mAh battery packs, but LG claims the higher density of its unit and the improved chemistry allowed for better results.

The tests were presumable done on equal footing - 50% screen brightness, full battery charge, with both phones connected to LG's U+ network. The results are as follows - 15.8 consecutive hours of talk on the Optimus G, compared to 9.5 hours on the Galaxy S III. The official specs of both phones are 15 hours of talk time in 3G mode for the G, and 11.5 hours for the S III, though.

Optimus G also recorded and played videos for 3.8 hours and 7.9 hours, respectively, whereas the Galaxy S III managed 2.8 hours recording and 7.3 of video playback.

The reason for this frugality was demonstrated for reporters playing PSY's "Gangnam Style" video, and while playing a 1.8 GB video game - in both cases the Optimus G showed lower power consumption compared to the Galaxy S III. Overall, the test results, while not independent, aim to confirm that the Optimus G, despite all the power stuffed into it, is not going to be less frugal than Samsung's most popular Android handset, which has the same battery capacity.

Asus releases three promotional Padfone 2 videos

Asus releases three promotional Padfone 2 videos
So, the new Asus Padfone 2 has been announced officially, and it is both pretty and powerful. Have you seen photos of the device already? You know what, even if you haven't, we have something even better right here. Asus has posted several Padfone 2 ads on YouTube, and they are all very enjoyable to watch.

The first one goes over the engineering process of the Asus Padfone 2 and the design solutions that have been implemented. The new model is lighter than its predecessor, which was possible thanks to the unibody construction of the device, as it is said in the video. Then we have a video clip going over the technical specifications of the Padfone 2. For those who need a refresher, the smartphone sports a 4.7-inch display with HD resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor ticking at 1.5GHz, and a 13-megapixel camera, while the tablet packs a 10.1-inch screen with built-in battery and a loudspeaker. And last but not least, there is a short 30 second video, the kind of which you might expect seeing on TV.

Now feel free to check out the videos below and tell us what you think in the comments. Is anyone excited about the Asus Padfone 2 coming later this year?

Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S IIIIntroduction:
This is the battle of the stars! Two phones enter, one can get by saying supremacy in the smartphone landscape. Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S IIIDesign:
Clearly see a huge disparity between the two dimensions, the iPhone 5 is probably easier to understand in hand, because it is lighter, thinner frame, not bulky in the hand, like the Galaxy S III. Moreover, it is clear that the iPhone 5 is the device most upscale, looking between the two, with a new brushed aluminum lid and sturdy construction. However, there is no doubt in our minds that the Samsung Galaxy S III likely to face a drop much better than its rivals - mainly because its plastic body would not hit so hard.

Then their screens without physical buttons that bring us back to their home screens - however, rises, while the other is hidden. However, there is one that is more advantageous because it is a necessary tactile feedback.
Looking at the sides of the two laptops have many common elements - such as connectors 3.5 mm jack for headphones, microphone, volume control buttons and power. However, the Samsung Galaxy III uses a universal microUSB port plus preferred video output using a MHL adapter, while the iPhone 5 is connected to the gate of the new Apple Thunderbolt property.

Rates uniformly together, these jewels have the same features of 8MP camera with auto focus and LED flash, capable of recording videos in 1080p, of course. After spending some time carefully detailing its complexity, it is a difficult decision, in which the device has a better screen. With 4.7 inches, the Samsung Galaxy S III HD 720 x 1280 Super AMOLED screen, the love for his size and more saturated colors, while the iPhone 5 with 4-inch 640 x 1136 Retina display wins and external visibility high colors with extreme accuracy. Naturally, the screen of the iPhone 5 Retina cough higher density of pixels 326 pixels per inch, compared with the 306 dpi SGSIII, but in all honesty is negligible, since both are carefully detailed.
